This talk by architectural historian Margaret “Peggy” Supplee Smith marks the launch of a new book published by Preservation North Carolina, Great Houses and Their Stories: Winston-Salem’s “Era of Success,” 1912-1940, with photographs by Jackson Smith about Winston-Salem’s most noteworthy houses. Smith’s book takes us “beyond the boxwood hedge,” revealing the city’s social and industrial networks and the brilliant architects they employed.
Toast with the author in the Forecourt Garden at 2:30 p.m. weather permitting, followed by a presentation at 3 p.m.
