Introduction to Cemetery Monument and Headstone Preservation Workshop
Historic Oakwood Cemetery
(1812-1828 NC Hwy 39 N, Louisburg, NC)
Saturday, April 13, 2024
1:30pm – 4:30pm
Olde Towne Louisburg (Louisburg Historic District, Inc. a 501(c)(3)) will be sponsoring this one-day monument preservation workshop in coordination with the Town of Louisburg. They are privileged to have Michael and Hilary Verville of Verville Preservation, offering this unique hands-on demonstration for the community. This is one of many steps they will be taking to bring life back to the beautiful Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
After being forced to cancel the March 9th Workshop, they are officially bringing the workshop AND the amazing team with Verville Preservation back! Join them on Saturday, April 13th for this hands-on workshop! If you hadn’t been able to register for the previous workshops that they’ve held, here’s your chance to sign up! Workshop class size is limited to 20 attendees, so don’t delay! Grab your spot now so you’ll be able to join them for this unique and amazing event.
Lecture, demonstration, and hands-on minor repair techniques for resetting unbroken headstones and footstones, re-attaching unbroken headstones to bases, or other appropriate repairs. Includes proper cleaning techniques. In taking this workshop you will come away with basic understanding and knowledge you need to care for your own headstone/memorial, by learning the tools and techniques in proper gravestone cleaning and care. Many historic gravestones have been destroyed due to untrained individuals and incorrect techniques. This is a hands on workshop where you will be working on actual stones that will be the same type of stones in your own cemetery.
All materials will be provided for you at this workshop. It is strongly recommended that you wear loose, comfortable clothing, jeans/work khakis, work/garden/hiking boots (the grounds and some gravesite areas are not level). We will provide facilities for members attending the workshop as well as water and healthy snacks.
This workshop is limited to only 20 participants. Workshop will last approximately 3 hours. Since this is a fundraising event for LHD, Inc., ticket sales are final with no refunds. The cost of this workshop is $50.
